But I don’t need convincing because I’ve had Thompson’s cooking several times, and nowhere with as profound results as in London. The thing that makes Nahm a must-eat for me when visiting is not just the quality of the food, it is the singularity of the dinner experience. For almost anyone visiting for the first time, it will be completely unlike anything they have ever tried - anything. While you can order a la carte, the best option, and the one that makes Nahm so special, is the “Traditional Thai Meal,” in which guests receive a house appetizer and then choose one dish each from several categories: starter, soup, salad, relish, curry, and main which is a stir fried, braised or steamed dish. The full slate is served family-style for sharing. Since Nahm is a fine dining restaurant, all of this wondrous food is accompanied by first rate service, presentation and the option for sommelier-chosen wine pairings, a great choice given that relatively few visitors will have the expertise to select appropriate wines for such varied and intense flavors.

In terms of the menu itself, Night + Market’s Silver Lake location is nearly identical to the original, meaning the food is still among the best you’ll find in LA. We’ve only ranked it a few notches below the original because, as a whole, the atmosphere is bit more chaotic and cramped than the West Hollywood location, they don’t serve beer towers, and there’s no outdoor patio for you and your big group of friends. But as soon as those wings, the khao soi, and every other dish starts hitting the table, you tend to forget about those very small shortcomings. Lemongrass Chicken Recipe Video by YumYum
When noodles are soft enough (but still slightly harder than al dente pasta), rinse them in cold water and drain. Make sure all of your ingredients are set up and divided into equal portions. Note: You’re cooking one portion at a time. Add 2 tbsp. oil to a wok or large non-stick pan. Heat on medium-high, until very hot. Add chicken (if using) and cook for 1 min, then add tofu and garlic. Cook for about 45 secs, stirring frequently. Garlic should now be brown. Stir in noodles, then add 3 tbsp. of sauce mixture. Coat noodles and meat well and stir vigorously to keep noodles from sticking. After about 2 mins, taste noodles to check if they’re soft enough. If not, add 2-3 tbsp. of water and continue to cook for a little longer.

You’ve no doubt passed Siam Sunset a hundred times and just assumed it was a closed down portion of the adjoining America’s Best Value Inn. But it’s very much open and home to the best traditional Thai breakfast in town. Open every day at 6am, this is where you go to eat some porridge and Thai donuts, sip on some instant coffee with angry old men, and feel like you are nowhere near Southern California.

Dave Tewasart and Justin Baey are going strong at Grand Central Market’s Thai stall, where classic streetside fare like grilled chicken (gai yang) gets cooked sous-vide before being finished on the grill. On the other side of the stand, Sticky Rice Too is Tewasart’s answer to all the requests for noodles. The broth on the khao soi is bold, rich and slightly sweet comfort food that’s a gutsy take on the dish. The pad thai might be some of the best in the city.

Decent service the girl working was very friendly, very drab atmosphere and the food sadly left alot to be desired. I have a very good friend from Thailand who owns a successful Thai restaurant and have had Tom Ka soup before so I understand what it should taste like it was very salty and did not taste like it had coconut milk in it. I also had the peanut passion it to was mediocre not super impressed by the food. Also if someone orders zero stars don't put stars on that box as it got confused with mine and so we were unable to finish meals as we got our meals confused. LA Thai: Restaurant Goes Green
What do they taste like? Shirataki noodles are actually taste-less and will take on the flavors of the dish. Texture-wise is where they vary, as they are more rubbery than your traditional noodles. And tbh, we’re not fans of using them outside the realms of Asian cuisine. But given that the rice noodles used in pad Thai are also on the chewy-side, shirataki noodles do work quite well here. And in our book, definitely worth a try. London Good Street Food. Thai Restaurants in Camden Market, Camden Town
This family-owned neighborhood spot at Pico-Robertson isn’t just on this list because the food is excellent. It’s on this list because it’s pretty romantic too. With white tablecloths and a glass-enclosed wine rack in the back, Si Laa has a more upscale feel than others on this list. Prices are still reasonable, the waitstaff is insanely friendly, and pat yourself on the back - you just nailed date night. The crispy duck and “hidden treasure” are must-orders.

See what I did there? It’s a tie for first. How could I put On’s at number two? Unless I want to get assassinated by the many thousand people who believe On’s to be the very best of all. And I’m not courting assassination this week. If you’ve never been, please know it’s right next to the Turf Club, and is super fantastic, especially beautifully designed for sharing and snacking. So, load up the table with Meing-Kum, those fiery castanets of ginger lettuce wraps, a tom ka soup of coconut so fragrant you may as well be in a spa, pork sour sausages, whole fish steamed with lime and chilis, nam khao rice salad with sausage and peanuts in a lime vinaigrette. 1613 University Ave. W., St. Paul, 651-644-1444, onskitchen.com
Sapp Coffee Shop is a legitimate coffee shop. But not the kind that sells you $6 drip-who-gives-a-sh*t, full of people talking about the Oregon coast. Walk in here at any point in the day and you’ll find old men sitting in the corner, drinking coffee by themselves, and simply reading the newspaper. And while we certainly condone joining them, you’re really here for the beef boat noodle soup. It’s fragrant, savory, and downright soul-curing. There isn’t a bowl of soup we want more on a sick day.
Rosa's is a popular mini chain of 13 Thai restaurants across London and I visited the brightly decorated Soho location. Chef Saiphin prides herself on creating authentic Thai dishes reminiscent of the cooking on her family farm back in Khao Kho. While the much loved green curry is perfectly cooked and a firm bestseller here, our favorite was the beef massaman curry packed with potatoes, cashew nuts and fragrant spices. A close second dish was "drunken" flat noodles (guay tiew pad kee mao) stir fried with basil, peppercorn and galangal. And I never tire of the famous stir fried noodle dish, Pad Thai, an excellent version of which is on offer at Rosa’s.
Amidst all the chaos of Grand Central Market, you might miss Sticky Rice at first. But inside this food stall in the center of the market is a fantastic secret. And that secret is the best beef panang curry in the city. The rest of the menu is pretty great too, but something in that curry speaks to us unlike anything else. It’s sweet, savory, and a little spicy, and the braised beef is so tender that chewing is optional. Mango Tree, Thai Restaurant London serving Authentic Thai Cuisine or Thai Food
Chef Haidar Karoum and restaurateur Mark Kuller (the duo behind Proof and Estadio) always planned to open an Asian restaurant together. After heading east to eat their way through Bangkok and Chiang Mai in 2012, they returned to D.C., where Doi Moi (meaning “new change”) was born. The 5,000-square-foot restaurant overlooks bustling 14th Street and features a large open kitchen paying tribute to the culinary traditions found throughout Southeast Asia—and its Thai dishes are among D.C.’s finest. You’ll agree if you order the khao soi gai, a spicy chicken and crispy noodle coconut curry with pickled mustard greens that takes three hours to make.
If only the word “cafeteria” more often described places like this one, where food is ordered by pointing to unlabeled sections of a steam table, à la rice-curry stalls and shops in Thailand. Combos feature two or three dishes plus rice. You never know what you’re going to get but you can be sure it will be delicious, from super-spicy curries to stewed pork belly with tofu.
